Advent Reflection - Not Quite Perfect

We all want the perfect Christmas – the sort you see on the telly, Delia’s food, handmade table decorations and an Amazon wish list of presents under the Christmas tree. What we actually get is underdone turkey, crackers with no snap and squabbling with our family over who has the TV remote. With so much build up and hype, actual Christmas can be a disappointment.

It was the same on the first Christmas day – the Son of God, who had been anticipated and expected for centuries – the one who would come to change the world was about to be born on earth. The angels were ready with their special songs, and the royal gifts of gold, and the expensive perfumes of frankincense and myrrh had be bought by wise men, setting out on their journey. What do we see? Not a king born in a royal palace but a tiny baby born to a young mum after a long and tiring journey and sleeping in an animal feeding trough. Yet that baby really is the Son of God, called Jesus, who is more special, more important than any other person born on the planet – he is God himself. He grew into a man, loved extravagantly, and died and rose again so we can be reunited with God.

Jesus more than exceeded expectations.

Prayer

I pray that Jesus, the Light of the World, will bring peace, light and love into our Christmas this year and that he will bless us so we can see his perfection through life's imperfection.
